august 2026 spreads for all

hello, friends. every month i like to send out a little batch of brand new tarot spreads — and this month, between the next cohort of the grove opening next month as well as our card of the month the eight of cups on the brain, i keep circling around this idea of devotion.

in one sense, devotion is gorgeous, beautiful, devout. devotion can be loyalty, fidelity, steadfastness, constancy — a reliability that feels safe and secure; a dedication that is warm and attentive. devotion can feel like deep love, sweet care, the kind of allegiance that builds trust and love.

but devotion can also twist in intensity and become obsession, mania, the kind of passion that becomes frightening in its fixation. infatuation and addiction, compulsion, an inability to separate ourselves from the object of our desire or the goal of our effort. being weak for something, being lost for something — this, too, is a version of devotion.

i think being able to cultivate healthy devotion, which is to say being in reciprocal relationship with and curiosity-oriented connection to something — this is the balance that i love, that feels satisfying without devouring entirely. my scorpio self tends to take things to the extreme, pushing things to the edge and often tumbling right over. but in community, in intentionality, in authenticity, we can find that balance a bit easier to strike. and whether you're practicing devotion in a container like the grove or exploring it solo with your tarot cards, the eight of cups and the concept of devotion have a lot of magic and potency to share.

grab your tarot cards, and let's play with this idea together.
