a spread for the ace of pentacles

a spread for the ace of pentacles

hello, friends. i'm still traveling for my honeymoon and wrote the following piece a few weeks ago to prepare — but with the devastating fires in california, wanted to suggest a few additional resources. first, my dear friend bee scolnick (who is based in LA) recently shared five fantastic mutual aid groups that could use your support and donations. the amazing black phoenix alchemy lab is hosting a perfume fundraiser to raise funds for local organizations, and when in doubt, world central kitchen is always a great place to donate as they are helping out not only in southern california but also in north carolina, texas, gaza, lebanon, and so many other areas around the globe.

i know that there is a lot of chaos already here, and even more looming on the horizon. i want to gently, lovingly remind you to move slowly and intentionally, to take care of yourself each day, to remember how powerfully small actions accumulate, to allow yourself to grieve, and to build community in whatever ways make the most sense for you. i'm sending you so much love, courage, and hope.

now, for the tarot: this month we're looking at the ace of pentacles, the seed that blossoms throughout the story of earth. particularly at a time when it feels like so much is being lost, this ace offers us a glimpse of a potential future: one of steady growth, gentle stability, consistent nourishment.

i love this ace for its optimism and courage, for its ability to remind us that even the biggest, sturdiest, most bountiful and fruitful plants begin as tiny seeds. the ace of pentacles feels so tangible to me, demonstrating the importance of showing up consistently and lovingly, of practicing patience with ourselves and our dreams, of giving what we can so that we can have a more stable and supported future.

the suit of pentacles so often gets associated immediately with the idea of money and wealth. and it makes sense why — in our capitalist society, where billionaires and corporations hold power over basically everything and everyone else, money has an outsized importance. money too often equals power, control, or different standards for behavior and accountability.

but i want to remind you that the suit of pentacles can include literally any resource you have access to: space, time, energy, health, imagination, creativity, flexibility, community, privacy, joy, wonder, love, and so much more. if it's a thing that you can use to build or support something else, it counts as a resource!

so what are your resources? and how do they help you plant seeds for your own future, tend them with constant love and attention, show up for them even on days when you're tired or irritated or feeling uncertain?

what does it mean to dream as big as possible when it comes to the ace of pentacles, to use those resources in creative and unexpected ways to build a new kind of future for yourself and the collective? our tarot spread this month will give us space to explore these ideas more thoroughly.
