two of cups // creative prompts
hello, friends. i've shared an essay as well as a tarot spread for our card of the month, and today is our final installment on the two of cups: a series of prompts, questions, and opportunities for you to dig more deeply into this card on your own.
quick reminder that if you're craving a deeper relationship with your creativity, if you're longing for a spiritual and artistic community of your own, our third cohort of the grove begins next week!
the hope, the idea, the intention is that my writings and shares around our monthly tarot cards inspire you to think and connect and build deeper relationships with these cards, one at a time. i love keywords and correspondences as much as the next person, but the truth is that i believe that tarot is at its best when it's deeply relational — when we let our personal experiences and identities and beliefs and dreams shape our meanings for each card. it takes time to develop these more personal interpretations, but for me it's time very well spent.
in other words: i want you to have different perspectives on the cards than i do. i even want you to disagree with me, and also to push yourself to consider why you disagree with me. i want you to have your own meanings and connections with these cards, to bring your own insights and stories and ideas and questions to the cards even if they're wildly different than my own.
and a great way to kickstart that process is with creative prompts, journaling, and questions. you can use these any way you like, anytime you like, to explore the two of cups in some alternative ways. let these questions push you, challenge you, inspire you. let them help you dig even deeper, surprise yourself, make new discoveries.
let's make the two of cups personal, for you.
what does the two of cups mean for you? what do you associate with this card? when does it show up for you in your personal tarot readings, and how do you usually interpret it? what about this card excites you, and what about this card confuses you? when is this card exactly what you want to see, and when is it a frustrating answer to your question?
what do you associate with the number two, especially in the tarot (think about the high priestess, justice, judgement, and the other tarot twos)? what do you associate with the element of water, especially in the tarot with the suit of cups? how do your understandings of these correspondences help to shape your perspective on the two of cups? or, how do you think about the number two or the element of water when you pull this card?
what is your relationship with love, romantic or otherwise? what is your history with love? what stories do you have about love? what experiences do you have with love? what do you associate with love? what excites you about love? what do you struggle with when you think about love?
what does the word relationship bring up for you? what about the word connection? how do you think about intimacy, not only when it comes to other people but also when it comes to yourself? how often do you think about choice when it comes to relationships and connections? what is your relationship with hope, with grief, with vulnerability? what is your relationship with creativity, with spirituality? what is your relationship with your own dreams and ambitions? how do you think about the connections in your own life, and how do you sustain or deepen them?
if the two of cups was a character, who would it be? if the two of cups was a place or an environment, how would it look and feel? if the two of cups was a song, how would it sound? if the two of cups was a movement, how would it go? if the two of cups was a perfume, how would smelling it make you feel?
and finally — what might the two of cups have to offer you, in this moment? what relational choices are you navigating right now, and how are you working through them? what medicine could the two of cups bring to your life in this particular season? what if this card is just what you need right now?
i'll be back soon with an essay on our next card in the story of water, the three of cups! until then, i'm sending you courage, vulnerability, and the willingness to try.
