a spread for the nine of pentacles

it's not for me to tell you what is significant in your life right now, which cycle or story is coming to a conclusion — it's instead for you to consider what this card might have to offer you in this particular moment.
a spread for the nine of pentacles

hello, friends. it's been a wild, scary, difficult time, and i sincerely encourage you to find ways to connect with loved ones, stay devoted to your values and ongoing work, and build intentional rest and reflection into your days. your soft heart is worth cherishing, but it can also be a painful or heavy thing to protect. don't lose yourself in all of this upheaval.

i'm planning a new tarot study container to help offer some community-oriented support (it'll run in early october!) and am also building out an expansion to my signature conservatory program, which won't impact the price but will increase the value even more. keep an eye on your inboxes as those announcements will be out later this week!

earlier this month i shared an essay on the nine of pentacles, our card for september in this year of earth — and today, i want to offer a tarot spread that can help you connect with and more deeply explore this energy, in its many facets.

something i love about the tarot in general, and the suit of pentacles in particular, is just how many meanings can be discovered within these cards. pentacles has been a really fun suit to write about this year since it's so often heavily flattened into just being a story about money, or wealth, or security. and certainly, pentacles can speak deeply to those things! but once i stopped interpreting every one of these cards as a money card and allowed them instead to speak to resources, embodied experiences, sensuality, daily life, and so many more aspects and pieces of the art of being human, these cards became so much richer and more practical for me.

like, i'm a small business owner living in a terribly expensive city during yet another major financial crisis — of course i already think everything is about money. and/yet/also, money is not the only resource we have. money is not the center of the universe, in spite what politicians and billionaires say. money is not the only way that things can have value.

and money certainly does not have to be at the center of our every tarot reading, or our relationship with the tarot. free yourself, dear friends. let the pentacles be cards of beauty, connection, patience, boundaries, care, and the deep magic that dwells in devotion.
